Thirty-one million Americans suffer from low back pain. There is hope though. The Essential Low Back Program offers clinically proven relief. Seventy-eight percent of the participants of a recent National Institute of Health study who followed The Essential Low Back Program experienced a significant reduction in their pain levels in just 12 weeks. In addition, they gained life long tools to help keep their backs strong and restore their overall well-being. Nationally renowned yoga therapist Robin Rothenberg designed The Essential Low Back Program for everyone, regardless of body type or previous yoga experience. The program consists of five developmental yoga practices which are thoroughly explained and illustrated in the accompanying booklet. Each practice lays the foundation for the next and is progressively more challenging. Readers can use the CDs and booklet separately or in conjunction with each other for ease of learning. Robin's soothing voice explains these gentle, yet effective practices with her trademark clarity. Her explicit explanations take the guesswork out of finding the appropriate body positions and provide a safe way to learn to relax, stretch, and strengthen the lower back.

An Easy Yoga Program that Works!
Review Date: January 11, 2010
Reviewer: Carol L. Levenson, Bellevue, WA
I have had chronic neck and back problems for years, and I was getting very discouraged. Of course I tried everything - physical therapy, chiropractry, acupuncture, shots in my neck. These gave me some relief but required lots of office visits for short-term relief.
I had tried several yoga classes and videos, but they all were too difficult for me. The videos were particularly hard because I had to keep looking at the TV screen to see how to do the poses. A friend recommended Robin's therapeutic yoga class, and I have been going once a week and using the CD's ever since. Although my pain is not completely gone, I now have, anytime I choose, a way to ease the tension in my muscles.I am not disciplined enough to do it every day, but I find myself wanting to practice more often because it works!
I spent a month doing the first CD and now have practiced with them all. Robin describes every move and guides you to get into the correct position. She makes it easy to understand and easy to do. She teaches you how to modify the position if it hurts. The stretches feel good and the breathing exercises help you focus as well as relax.
I am really grateful to have this program. It has given me hope that I won't be in pain for the rest of my life!

Practice Yoga at Home!

This CD set is one of the closest things you can get to having a personal daily yoga class in your house! Robin's combination of stretching and strengthening the muscles in and around the low back has helped me immensely on the path to understanding and healing my own back pain. The practices are designed for someone who has little to no exposure to yoga, although I still find them essential and effective after practicing for over ten years. Aside from the practices themselves, there is also a very helpful introduction to the anatomy of the low back and how breathing and relaxation affects the body's relationship with pain. I recommend this book to anyone who would like to start a gentle yoga practice at home, and as a valuable teaching resource for yoga instructors and bodyworkers!
Best information I have found on understanding back problems
Review Date: March 25, 2009
Reviewer: I. Wiley,
This book has the best layman's information for understanding the physiology of the spine and how it relates to the rest of the body of anything I have found. I was diagnosed with scoliosis over 30 years ago and have worked with MDs, Osteopaths, Chiropractors, Physical Therapists, Yoga Teachers and Personal Trainers and never gotten the information I needed to really make and maintain positive changes in the health of my lower back till I started working with this book. The author had done an excellent job and I would recommend this to anyone, no matter what level of restriction or pain your experiencing. I wish I would have found it sooner.
For Yoga Teachers, Too!

Yoga teachers, do yourself a huge favor and buy this, ASAP. Buy it for your own practice, so that you may learn from a master "teacher of teachers." Buy it for your students, so that you can learn these tried & true, proven methods for working with low back pain.
I've worked with these sequences in my own practice, and learned so much, even though I've been practicing yoga for 20 years, and teaching for 18 (ten of those years under Robin's direction), and am certified at the 500 hour level by the American Viniyoga Institute. I continue to use "Yoga for Low Back," both in my own personal practice, and in my teaching. But if you can't study with Robin, this is the next best thing. Her voice will clearly guide you through the practices. The text & photos in the book will help illustrate what you hear. And your back, and your students' backs, will feel blissfully better.
