Symptoms Of A Back Disc – Symptoms and What You Can Do For Relief

herniated disc symptom can be very serious, and can lead to quite a bit of disability. This article will discuss the most common symptoms associated with a bulging disc in each region of the back, as well as a few recommendations for what you can do at home for relief.

But before we discuss the symptoms, we need to first have an understanding of how a bulging disc causes pain. The discs of the spine are cushions that separate each set of bones in the back. They are shock-absorbers, and they are each made up of two main parts – a strong outer covering called the annulus, and a soft jelly center called the nucleus.

If you take a close look at the back, what you will see is that the nerves of the spine are located directly behind each disc. These nerves are very significant, because they control everything in the body.

When a disc bulges, the outer covering of the disc is damaged, and the jelly begins to shift from the center of the disc, into the area where the disc has been damaged. This results in a bulge in the disc, and unfortunately, the disc will usually bulge right where the nerve is located.

This causes pressure to be applied to the affected nerve, which is truly what causes most of the symptoms associated with a bulging disc.

In fact, one interesting fact about the spinal discs is that they do not have the ability to feel pain sensations – in other words, even if the disc is damaged, you are unable to feel it. This makes sense when you consider that the discs are absorbing shock throughout the day – if you could feel this, you would be in pain all day!

So, the question is – if this is the case, why can this condition cause so much pain? Well, the answer is because the nerves are affected – the aggravated nerve is actually what causes all of the symptoms.

With this in mind, let’s discuss the most common symptoms of a herniated disc that can occur in each region of the spine. Let’s begin with the neck, and work our way down.

A bulging disc in the cervical spine (neck) will usually cause symptoms such as neck pain and/or stiffness, headaches, shoulder, arm and hand pain (which may be experienced as sharp pain, burning, stabbing, numbness, or a pins and needles sensation), dizziness, ringing in the ears, blurred vision, thyroid problems (which can lead to weight problems), chest pains, and even heart palpitations (a sensation that your heart is pumping strongly in your chest).

This is a perfect example of what I was mentioning earlier – as you can see, these symptoms can involve much more than neck pain. The reason for this is because these areas of the body are controlled by the nerves in the neck, and pressure on a cervical nerve from a bulging disc will cause these parts of the body to malfunction.

The most common symptoms of a herniated disc for a thoracic disc (mid-back) are mid-back pain, shoulder, arm and hand pain (same as with the neck – the type of pain can vary), radiating pain around the rib cage, chest pain, shortness of breath, heart palpitations, neck pain and tension, headaches, and digestive problems (the nerves in the thoracic region of the spine control the gall bladder, which is a very important organ affecting digestion).

In the lumbar region (low back), the most common symptoms are low back pain and weakness, pain radiating down the leg (this pain can be a sharp pain, burning, stabbing, pins and needles, or numbness), leg weakness, knee pain, problems with the bowel or bladder, and sexual organ dysfunction.

So, when these symptoms occur, what can you do to relieve them? Unfortunately, most of the treatments doctors usually recommend are not as effective as most would like them to be. They may result in temporary relief, but long term relief is not common with the typical treatments.

Most doctors will recommend medications (usually pain relievers and muscle relaxers), pain injections (such as cortisone and epidurals), physical therapy, and surgery (as a last resort, usually). The reason these treatments do not usually result in long term relief is that they are primarily focused on numbing the aggravated nerve.

This may sound good on the surface, but if you do not deal with the cause of the problem (the bulging disc), the pain will inevitably return.

After working with thousands of patients who suffer with this condition, I’ve found that there are actually a number of treatments that do address the disc itself, and a combination of these treatments are usually most effective at providing relief.

In addition to this, there are a few things you can do from home for relief from symptoms of a herniated disc. The most common mistake I see people make with this condition is that they want to use heat for relief.

This is actually the worst thing you can do – ice is always the best option when you are experiencing pain. Ice will numb the nerve, and reduce the inflammation in the affected area. Heat, on the other hand, will just aggravate the nerve and cause additional swelling around the nerve, which causes the pain to last longer than it has to.

When using ice, apply it over the injured disc for 15 minutes, and wait at least an hour before you apply it again. You will need to repeat the treatment multiple times for the best results, and if you’re in a lot of pain, expect to use the ice consistently for at least 3 days before you experience considerable relief.

Problems with Teeth can cause Sinusitis

Did you ever hold on to your head hoping that would lessen the pain? Do your cheeks take on gigantic proportions or does it feel like your eyeballs are going to jump on top of the closet? The pain has moved from right above your eyes to the crown of the head? You think you are just dealing with a regular headache?

Give it another thought. If you are suffering from sinus problems you can expect it to become a chronic problem. You have a sinus cavity on both sides of your nose. When sinus problems occur frequently they can lead to enormous dental concern. Visit your dentist to keep an eye on the effect of sinusitis on your teeth.

Some homemade remedies might help you keep the symptoms under control. A mist of sea salt can do wonders. The pores of the nasal cavity are being moistened and the sinuses will open up more. Humidifying your room is better than keeping your environment dry. A humidifier in your sleeping area or having some standing water that slowly vaporizes will do the trick.

People who suffer from chronic sinus problems should evaluate the condition of their teeth and their nose regularly. This is especially true since most cases of sinusitus are caused by either the nose or the teeth. It is good to try to solve the problem by curing the condition, but one has know that it is a lot wiser and better to try to prevent sinus problems. We all have to take care of our bodies.

Recurring Sinusitis? Are You Aware of it?

Many Americans suffer from sinus problems every year. The number of sufferers is very high. It goes up as high as 37 million. With 32 million Americans suffering from sinus infections every year there is also about 5.8 billion dollars involved. This huge amount is just for treatment of conditions that are related to sinus infections. Those numbers come from the centers for disease control.

There are 4 types of sinuses. When sinuses become infected they cause a lot of pain. The moisture that is present in the sinuses is the perfect breeding ground for viruses, bacteria, and fungus. It will also attract viruses, bacteria, and fungus just like a magnet attracts metal.

Pain in the Face is a very common symptom. The sinus area becomes very tender. The whole head will hurt. The drainage of the nose is colored and thick. Sore throat is also a very common symptom. The symptoms resemble those of a regular cold.

When sinus infections come back over and over again or just stay around for an extended time period they are considered to be chronic or recurrent.

A research in 1999 that was done by the mayo clinic shows that just about all sinus infections that are chronic are caused by fungus. They left the common belief behind that says that regular bacteria are the cause of chronic sinusitis.

Antibiotics are often prescribed to cure sinus problems. Doctors do not do you a favor by prescribing antibiotics when you have sinusitis.

X-rays and CT scans can help diagnose sinusitis. Sometimes it is needed to do an MRI. Diagnosing the problem is very important.

A lot better than antibiotics to treat sinus problems is going for a treatment with Colloidal Silver. This is a supplement of mineral origin that shows a lot of positive results when used to treat sinusitis. It usually comes in a mist. This mist is brought into one of the sinuses. The contaminated surroundings are becomming affected by this mist. This mineral is also used by the space organization. Water in the space vehicle is sanitized by Colloidal Silver. Sometimes Colloidal Silver can also be used to help burn victims.

Many people think they just have a cold when in fact they suffer from a sinus infection. A common cold can however produce drainage that blocks the sinuses and cause sinusitis. If your cold lasts longer than one to two weeks, you should not assume that it is just a regular cold. Chronic sinusitis is a more likely diagnosis.

Mesothelioma, Ship Yards, and Cancer from Asbestos

Ship Yards and Cancer from Asbestos

Asbestos exposure can happen in a number of different methods, but most people are exposed to asbestos through workplace or jobsite exposure. There are several different occupations that may increase the risk of exposure to asbestos.

Construction and power plant workers, along with metal workers and demolition crews are among those who have an elevated risk of exposure to asbestos. Cancer, and the risk of exposure associated with these professions pales in comparison to risk of cancer and of exposure experienced by shipbuilders and other shipyard workers.

Arthritis Pain Relief With Exercise and Diet

How about treating arthritis with a yoga class? The ideal exercise regimen

At last count, some 70 million people in the U.S., or almost 1 in 4 of us, is afflicted with arthritis. Whether you have osteoarthritis or rheumatoid arthritis, it's generally a painful deal. Most people with arthritis find that the cold months are most painful.

Stiff, painful and swollen joints are the norm, which isn't conducive to most forms of exercise. While exercise can actually improve the patient's condition, it's somewhat of a catch-22.

Most exercise programs are simply too painful, resulting in – you guessed it – the patient dropping out of the program. There are medications available for people with rheumatoid arthritis which can slow down the progression of the disease.

Osteoarthritis sufferers may use arthritis pain creams like Ben Gay be prescribed anti-inflammatory meds, pain killers, or use natural homeopathic pain killers, but that's about the extent of what can be done in treating arthritis medically.

Diet can also help alleviate arthritis pains.  Drinking water regularly throughout the day and eating vegetables and fruits with anti-oxidents help lubricate the joints. Read the rest of this entry
